About the conference

UPDATE

Organizing Committee of the BFG Conference “Crisis management in the financial system – stairway to heaven or highway to hell?” informs that the Fund has decided to postpone the conference date. The exact date will be announced at a later date.

Due to the factors beyond our control, in the Fund’s opinion, it was not possible to ensure the organization of the conference in the form and scope planned on the original date. However, the Fund strives to organize an event of the highest standards – not only substantive, as evidenced by the highest-class experts invited to the discussions, but also technical. Soon, BFG will celebrate its 30th anniversary, which will be an additional contribution to the discussion, and the highest-level conference will become an important element of the celebration of this anniversary.

At the same time, we would like to thank everyone who has expressed their interest in the conference so far.

We apologize for any inconvenience caused by changing the conference date. We will inform you about the new date both on the Fund’s website, the conference website, as well as in e-mails and on BFG social media.

Crisis events are an inherent element of the financial system. They may destabilize it in a systemic or idiosyncratic sense. However, it is crucial to have appropriate mechanisms for managing crises and be properly prepared for the usage of such mechanisms. They constitute an essential contribution to stabilizing the financial systems.

The experience of the global banking crisis, which started in 2007, led to numerous changes in the functioning of crisis management in the financial system around the world and in the European Union, including in Poland. In 2024, 10 years will have passed since the adoption of the BRR and DGS Directives, which clarified the rules for conducting anti-crisis activities in the EU banking sector. At the same time, 2024 will mark 10 years since the Financial Stability Board published guidelines on the operation of an effective resolution system for insurance and reinsurance undertakings and central counterparties (CCP).

In light of the experience of the Bank Guarantee Fund in the field of crisis management in the financial sector, the above anniversaries are an ideal moment to discuss the lessons learned from the functioning of the crisis management system in the EU, as well as further directions for its development. Constructive dialogue in this area seems to be particularly important now. In the EU, work is underway on the revision of the crisis management and deposit insurance framework (the so-called CMDI reform). At the same time, the development of the resolution system for CCPs is being finished, and negotiations on the IRR Directive are taking place, which is to introduce the resolution framework to the EU insurance sector.

Given the above, the Bank Guarantee Fund invites to the conference on crisis management in the EU financial system entitled:

Crisis management in the financial system – stairway to heaven or highway to hell?

The conference will bring together representatives of financial safety net authorities responsible for crisis management as well as representatives of financial institutions and the world of science.

Participation in the whole conference is free of charge. The organizer does not cover the costs of travel and accommodation.

The conference will be held in English.
